INDIGENOUS PHOTOGRAPHY

“Look out for your own.”

“It’s a good day to be Indigenous.”

There was a time where I would wake up to a cold home. I had to stumble out of bed to the wood pile. Gathering up small pieces of wood to start a fire to warm up the house. That’s where the love of hard work comes from. The love of being Navajo or Diné comes from the early cold mornings and early my grandpa sing the old songs from underneath his stack of blankets.

There is only one way to shoot life and that is candid. You can stage but it’s like trying to catch a dancing flame. Fire don’t hold still for you, you have to chase it. That’s life. You can only dance with the flames, you can’t bend it to your will.
